Over the last few weeks, there has been a lot of buzz concerning a member of the White House team. Specifically, it has been about Rahm Emanuel. Shortly, Obama will need a new Chief of Staff as Rahm Emanuel is leaving for greener pastures. Rahm Emanuel is running for Mayor of Chicago. The incumbent mayor, Richard Daley, is retiring. When Daley announced his retirement, a lot of people thought of Rahm.
Rahm is gone now
Speculation of Rahm Emanuel leaving his post for the upcoming Chicago mayor election has been rampant for weeks. Nobody has heard if he is running for sure yet. It still is not official. There were reports from D.C. saying otherwise. This would indicate he is running officially. According to the Washington Post, an official announcement is due out soon from the White House. A press conference could be held where President Obama addresses the issue. There has been an announcement that there could be a press conference in the White House in the near future as a result of personnel changes, and this originated from White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs.
It’s a Daley now
This year shocking news came as Chicago Mayor Richard Daley decided not to run again. He does not want to serve anymore after this term. He just wants to live retired live. Daley thinks it is time to move on, states the NY Times. The Chicago dynasty could be ending with his retirement. Chicago had his father, named Richard Daley also, as a mayor for a when. He was mayor for longer than most. The elder Daley served within the post from 1955 to 1976, and passed away while in office. Daley himself has been the mayor since 1989 when he was elected in. The mayor of Chicago has been within the Daley family for a long time. In fact, it has been for 44 of the last 55 years.
Rahm hoping to get the position
The job is something Rahm Emanuel has been pining for. He really wants the position. Emanuel may be just the one for the job considering that Democrats have ruled the city forever.
